France: Round 3 is over. Tourcoing and Chaumont to the top! Toulouse, Sète, Saint Jean D’Illac and Nantes ok

After the advance played yesterday, in which a super Montpellier defeated titleholders Tours at tie break, Round 3 of 2023/24 Marmara Spike League has been completed today with all the other 6 games.
In the first one, Toulouse celebrated the maiden victory of this new season after a great four sets win on the field of Paris – 1-3 (25:21, 20:25, 19:25, 21:25), with 20 points from top scorer Julien Winkelmuller, who scored 20 points through 46% in attack, 2 winning blocks and 2 aces, well supported by Maxime Hervoir who also contributed with 17 points, 3 aces and 64% in attack. Joachim Panou and Nikola Kovacevic scored 16 and 15 points respectively for the team from country’s capital, who suffered the first defeat of the season.
To the top, after three rounds, with 3 wins in as many games and 9 points in the current standings Tourcoing and Chaumont.
The first one, after struggling a lot in first set, sweep Plessis Robinson 3-0 (27:25, 25:18, 25:18) in front of their home fans, with a good performance in attack (60% to 45%) and another great game from Argentina National Team member Pablo Koukartsev, top scorer of the match with 18 points to his name (all in attack) and 64%, while Ryley Barnes also contributed with 14 points through 50% in attack and 2 blocks.
3 points also for Chaumont, who inflicted a four sets defeat to Poitiers, 1-3 (25:11, 19:25, 16:25, 21:25), with 11 winning blocks and 21 points through 70% in attack from a great Patrick Indra, supported by Niko Suihkonen and Filip Sestan, who also contributed with 18 and 14 points, respectively.
Turkish opposite Metin Toy scored 19 points for Poitiers (2 aces, 1 block and 50% in attack).
No problem for Sète, who literally destroy Nice and celebrated their first win of the season after a clear 3-0 sweep, partially 25:18, 25:21 and 25:18. Celestin Cardin, opposite of Nice in last season, ended the game as top scorer with 16 points to his name through 46% in attack, 2 aces and 1 block, while Maximiliano Gauna played and excellent game with 15 points, 70% in attack and 1 block.
On the losing side nobody reached a double digit, but Ukrainian middle blocker Valerii Todua, who recovered after an ankle injury, scored 9 points with 2 winning blocks and 100% in attack (7/7).
Remain still winless after three games Narbonne, who suffered a defeat against newcomers Saint-Jean d’Illac, but earned one points as the game ended at tie break, 2-3 (25:23, 16:25, 21:25, 25:20, 14:16).
However, they remained to the bottom of the current standings.
The Ligue A newcomers, now with 3 points and a win in French top division, played an excellent game in blocking, with 15 points from this element (5 by a very good Augustin Guerin, who ended the game with 15 points through 71% in attack), while Lucas Lilembo and Daryl Bultor, with 21 and 20 points respectively (67% in attack for the latter), were decisive for the final result. Georgi Tatarov, top scorer of the game, tallied 26 points for Narbonne.
Close the picture another tie break win, the one of Nantes Rezé over Saint Nazaire, 3-2 (25:14, 22:25, 25:18, 22:25, 15:8).
In a game with lot of ups and downs in both sides, Chizoba Neves Atu ended the clash as absolute top scorer with 28 points to his name, 46% in attack, 2 aces and 2 blocks.
French championship will continue already on Tuesday with all 7 games of Round 4.
