CEV Cup: 16th finals start today! All results of Wednesday

16th Finals of 2023/24 CEV Cup started today with first 9 games.
What a clash between Champions of Austria Hypo Tirol Innsbruck and Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahçe PRL Istanbul! The hosts, surprisingly, managed to prevail at tie break in a game that has been solved only
at 21-19 of the fifth set! 3-2,
partially 25:23, 15:25, 25:20, 23:25 and 21:19. In an exciting clash, Brazilian Luan Weber emerged as top scorer with 24 points through 55% in attack all 6 aces who performed the winning side.
Not a good day for Hypo Tirol’s fellow countrymen SK Zadruga Aich/Dob, heavily defeated in Greece,
on the field of AONS Milon Nea Smyrni Athens in just three sets (26:24, 25:17, 25:22).
Five teams took their first step towards the next stage of the competition, Round of 16, with straight sets victories.
Switzerland’s Chenôis Geneve won in Hungary, on the field of Fino Kaposvar 0-3 (23:25, 20:25, 24:26) with 21 points from absolute top scorer Daniel De Souza Maciel (including 2 aces, 3 winning blocks and 50% in attack), and the same did Spain’s Rio Duero Soria, who stunned Serbia’s OK Vojvodina Novi Sad (SRB) prevailing away by 0-3 (24:26, 22:25, 20:25) and Greece’s Paok Thessaloniki, who won on the field of Croatia’s Mladost Zagreb 0-3 (28:30, 22:25, 19:25) after an exciting first set.
All easy also for Czech Republic’s Kladno Volejbal CZ, who literally destroyed OK Radnik Bijeljina from Bosnia (25:18, 25:19, 25:15), and Italy’s Allianz Milano, who did the same to Belgium’s Decospan VT Menen (25:13, 25:21, 25:15) with 14 winning blocks (5 from Marco Vitelli) and 16 points from Matey Kaziyski (1 ace, 2 blocks and 65% in attack)

Czech Republic’s Čez Karlovarsko celebrated a four sets win in Finland, on the field of Ford Levoranta Sastamala, 1-3 (25:20, 23:25, 23:25, 23:25) while an exciting French derby closed the picture: in a clash between two sides who currently are fighting for the top positions of Ligue A standings, Nantes Rezé Métropole prevailed over Chaumont VB 52 by 3-1 (15:25, 25:23, 25:21, 25:21) with 19 points from top scorer Chizoba Neves Atu and an almost perfect Petrus Montes, who also contributed with 12 points, 2 winning blocks and 92% in attack (11/12)!
Competition will continue tomorrow with last 7 games of first leg.
