CEV Cup: 1st leg of 16th is over! All results

16th Finals of 2023/24 CEV Cup are over! Let’s see who were the teams who took their first steps towards next stage!
Three teams collected straight sets victories away and two of them in just over an hour of play.
Turkish powerhouse Arkas Izmir (but only at 7th place in Efelerligi for now) literally destroyed Bulgaria’s Neftohimik Burgas with a clear 0-3 (14:25, 17:25, 21:25) after just 68 minutes with 15 points from top scorer Georg Grozer (2 aces, 1 block and 57% in attack), and the same did Germany’s SWD Powervolleys Düren in North Macedonia, on the field of OK Strumica, 0-3 (15:25, 19:25, 17:25) in 69 minutes, with 11 winning blocks (compared to the 2 of the hosts) and 56% of team performance in attack.
Away straight sets win also for Belgium’s Volley Haasrode Leuven VZW, who stunned Serbia’s Partizan Beograd defeating them 0-3 (17:25, 20:25, 23:25) with 21 points from Christophe Witvrouwen (including 2 winning blocks and 59% in attack. Also this game lasted just 68 minutes!
Ukraine’s SC “Prometey” Dnipro, Montenegro’s Budva and Poland’s Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie collected straight sets victories too, but on their home courts.
The first one easily defeated Nova Tech Lycurgus Groningen from The Netherlands 3-0 (25:21, 25:17, 25:16) after 67 minutes of play, and Budva did the same with Groningen’s compatriots Draisma Dynamo Apeldoorn, 3-0 (25:22, 26:24, 25:21), with a great performance from top scorer Balsa Radunovic, who closed the game with 20 points through 60% in attack, including 4 aces and 4 blocks, well supported by Lazar Dodic who also contributed with 16 (2 aces and 61% in attack).
All easy also for the Polish side, who trampled over Bulgaria’s Hebar Pazardzhik 3-0 (25:19, 25:13, 25:18) with four players in double digit: Karol Butryn, top scorer with 14 points, followed by Frenchman Trevor Clevenot with 12 and Mateusz Bieniek, with 10 and 70% in attack.
Close the picture a game that has been solved only after a fifth set ended 30-28 and 134 minutes of play! It was played in Serbia’s Hala Sportova “Jezero” Kragujevac, between hosts Radnicki Kragujevac and Romania’s SCM Craiova, and it has been closed 3-2 (23:25, 25:18, 25:17, 21:25, 30:28) with 24 points from top scorer Deivid Krastev (53% in attack, 2 aces and 1 block) and 6 block points from Nikola Goic (in addition to his great performance made with 15 points through 73% in attack).
