Italy: Trento down Perugia in big match of Round 10 and fly to the top! Victories also for Civitanova, Milano, Verona and Monza
5 min read
After the advance played yesterday, in which Valsa Group Modena needed five sets to win on the field of Farmitalia Catania, Round 10 of 2023/24 Superlega CredemBanca has been closed today.
The day started with the big match of this Round: defending champions Itas Trentino back to their ilT quotidiano Arena, full-packed for the occasion, after three weeks without home games, and they did it with an exciting 3-1 (25:21, 25:23, 23:25, 25:23) over Sir Susa Vim Perugia!
A result that also worth the first place in the standings, thanks to a first set commanded from start to finish, the only one ended with an advantage of more than 2 points, and then the others, all hard-fought, including the second one (won despite the rivals recorded as many as 84% of team performance in attack), and in fourth, closed after a comeback from 10-15.
Decisive the attack: 18 points for Alessandro Michieletto, 62%, 4 aces, 1 block and MVP award, 21 for Kamil Rychlicki (53% with 2 block and 3 aces), and 17 for Lavia.
The game between Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza and Cucine Lube Civitanova ended at tie break, and to celebrate are the latter, partially 27:29, 20:25, 25:21, 25:22 and 10:15, who won their third game in a row counting all competitions, Superlega and Champions League.
Here too decisive the performance in attack, with 4 players in double digit for the winners, starting from top scorer Adis Lagumdzija, who closed the game with 27 points to his name through 52% in attack, including 2 aces and 1 block, then Aleksandar Nikolov, who also contributed with 17 and 3 aces, decisive in the tie break, Barthlemy Chinenyeze (13 with 1 ace and 1 block) and Ivan Zaytsev (11).
Four players in double digit also among the hosts: Yuri Romanò (20), Ricardo Lucarelli (16), Francesco Recine (15) and Robertlandy Simon (10), however Lube was slightly better in attack (52% to 44%), but the 13 winning blocks of Piacenza (compared to the 6 of the rivals) kept the balance until the fifth set.
Also an Allianz Milano who struggled more than expected won the game at tie break against a combative Gioiella Prisma Taranto who,
however, collapsed 15-3 in fifth set! Partially it was 19:25, 26:24, 22:25, 25:16 and 15:3.
Taranto collected as many as 13 blocks in 3 sets, while Milano closed the game with 10 points from this element, 8 only in fourth and fifth sets. It was a game with lot of ups and downs in both sides, until fourth set in which Milano started to play, led by MVP Ferre Reggers, who will close the game with 23 to his name, and Taranto collapsed, above all in fifth set closed in just 12 minutes.
The other two games ended in straight sets: Rana Verona down Cisterna Volley (25:23, 25:17, 27:25) in front of their home fans,
and the same did Vero Volley Monza, who defeated a disappointing Pallavolo Padova with the same result (25:21, 25:21, 25:21).
Verona played a good game in attack,
led by Francesco Sani, MVP of the match with 18 points to his name including 2 winning blocks, and Rok Mozic, who scored the same number of
points with 2 aces. Double digit also for Amin, who added 14 points.
Nothing to do for Padova, despite the 15 points through 52% in attack from top scorer Gabi Garcia.
On the winning side Arthur Szwarc scored 12 points through 60% in attack, while Brazilian setter Fernando Kreling was named MVP of the match.
First leg will closed on Tuesday, December 26.
