Champions League: week 5 continues – Trento undefeated. Ziraat, Berlin and Piacenza ok

Week 5 of 2023/24 CEV Champions League continued today with other four games.
Pool A leaders Ziraat Bank Ankara from Turkey struggled more than expected but eventually managed to defeat Belgium’s Knack Roeselare at tie break, 3-2 (19:25, 25:21, 13:25, 20:25, 18:16), with 28 points from Matthew Anderson (with 4 winning blocks, 1 ace and an impressive 72% in attack) and 18 from Wouter Ter Maat.
In Pool B, ACH Volley Ljubljana faced a challenging match against Italy’s Itas Trentino in Ljubljana, resulting in a 0-3 (30:32, 16:25, 18:25) loss. Despite a resilient effort, Slovenian side couldn’t match the rivals’ prowess. With standout performances from Jan Kozamernik and Riccardo Sbertoli, Trentino confirmed their top spot in Group B. ACH Volley’s Champions League season will conclude with their next match against Tours.
In Pool C, Italian powerhouse Gas Sales Daiko Piacenza overpowers Turkish Halkbank Ankara in a atraight-set victory, commanding each set with scores of 19:25, 23:25, and 19:25. Robertlandy Simon Aties emerged as the MVP with 11 points through 71% in attack, contributing significantly to Piacenza’s victory and their top position in Pool C with 12 points.
On the same Pool, Germany’s BR Volleys secure playoff spot with a 1-3 (22:25, 22:25, 25:22, 24:26) victory in Portugal, on the field of Benfica Lisbon. With Piacenza’s concurrent win over Halkbank, BR Volleys now face a decisive match against Piacenza for the quarter-final berth.
