In last three encounters of 2023/24 PlusLiga Round 18 or, if you prefer, Round 3 of second leg, volleyball fans witnessed thrilling matches. Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie secured a significant 3-1 victory over Asseco Resovia Rzeszów in the big match of the day and a prequel of 2023/24 CEV Cup quarterfinals (the same two sides will face each others on Thursday, in Rzeszow for the first leg). Karol Butryn’s six serve aces contributed to Zawiercie’s triumph, with a final scoreline of 21:25, 25:18, 29:27, 25:23.
He scored 24 points through 53% in attack and 1 block, well supported by teammate Trevor Clevenot with 17 points (63% in attack, 3 aces and 3 blocks). Despite a valiant effort, Resovia, without Klemen Cebulj, fell short, with Stephen Boyer leading their scoring with 21 points to his name (with 2 aces, 2 blocks and 63% in attack).
Grupa Azoty ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle marked a victorious debut for new coach, by beating Indykpol AZS Olsztyn 3-2 (19:25, 25:20, 27:29, 25:23, 15:13). Łukasz Kaczmarek shone as the match’s best player, scoring as many as 29 points through 60% in attack and 3 of his team’s 13 winning blocks, while Alan Souza on the other side of the net also stood out, scoring 28 points with 4 aces, 2 blocks and 49% in attack.
In another nail-biting game, Ślepsk Malow Suwałki clinched their third consecutive home victory, defeating GKS Katowice 3-2 (22:25, 25:22, 25:20, 17:25, 15:12). Żiga Stern led the winners with 21 points with an impressive 74% in attack, 3 aces and 1 block, while Lukas Vasina was the top scorer for Katowice with 25 points (70% in attack, 1 ace and 1 block), but he wasn’t enough.
