CEV Cup: Lüneburg and Fenerbahçe take first step towards semifinals. Tie break win for Olympiacos

Quarterfinals of 2023/24 CEV Cup started today with first three games, waiting for the Polish derby scheduled tomorrow between Asseco Resovia Rzeszów and Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie.
All easy for Germany’s SVG Lüneburg, who celebrated a clear 3-0 (25:19, 25:19, 25:16) home win over AONS Milon NEA Smyrni Athens from Greece, with 18 points from top scorer Erik Röhrs (with 2 aces, 3 winning blocks and 57% in attack).
Straight sets win also for Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahçe, who won on the field of Greenyard Maaseik, 0-3 (22:25, 33:35, 16:25), led in score by Serb Drazen Luburic, author of 21 points with 1 ace and 61% in attack, while Greece’s Olympiacos Piraeus down Fenerbahçe’s compatriots Arkas Izmir after 139 minutes of play, 3-2 (26:24, 21:25, 27:25, 23:25, 15:7), despite as many as 14 aces from the Turkish (7 for the winners) and 28 points (including 1 block and 9 aces) from bomber Georg Grozer.
Tonček Stern and Salvador Hidalgo Oliva scored 19 and 18 points respectively for Olympiacos, who will face the same rivals in second leg next Wednesday, on February 7.
