Round 21 of 2023/24 Plusliga or,
if you prefer, Round 6 of second leg, continues today with other three games and not without upsets.
In front of 4000 home fans, BOGDANKA LUK Lublin, at sixth place in the standings, stun former second-placed Projekt Warszawa celebrating a great 3-1 (25:19, 25:22, 20:25, 25:22) success, with 21 points from Damian Schultz (1 ace, 3 winning blocks and 59% in attack), and 14 from Alexandre Ferreira (1 ace and 62% in attack), while setter Marcin Komenda was named MVP of the match.
Bartłomiej Bołądź was the most prolific player on the other side of the net with 21 points, including 3 aces and 51% in attack.
Prior to this game, the team from country’s capital had 30 points in the standings, at second place, just like Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie, who today suffered a defeat too on the field of Barkom Każany Lwów – 3-2 (18:25, 27:25, 29:31, 25:19, 15:12). However, a single points was enough to regain the second place in the standings, now at -6 from leaders Jastrzębski Węgiel, who yesterday easily won on the field of last-placed Enea Czarni Radom.
After 169 minutes of play, Ilia Kovalov left the court as top scorer with 25 points and with MVP title (4 winning blocks and 55% in attack), closely followed by Vasyl Tupchii, who added 24 with 2 blocks, 1 ace and 49% in attack, and Moussé Gueye, with 22 points through 65% in attack with 2 aces and as many as 7 winning blocks. And in fact it was the block to make the difference, as the hosts scored 18 points from this element, compared to the rivals’ only 3! Aluron, on the other hand, were better from the service line, putting down 14 aces (4 for today’s winners). Trevor Clevenot was the most prolific player on the losing side scoring 21 points, all in attak, through 54% in attack.
Also PGE GiEK Skra Bełchatów won at tie break, 2-3 (19:25, 21:25, 25:22, 27:25, 11:15) on the field of
Trefl Gdańsk, with 24 points from top scorer and MVP Adrian Aciobăniței (3 aces, 48% in attack and 3 of his team’s 15 winning blocks), well supported by and excellent Mateusz Poręba, who also contributed with 16 points including 6 winning blocks and 91% in attack (10/11). Aliaksei Nasevich scored 30 points for Gdańsk (59% in attack with 2 aces and 2 blocks), but he wasn’t enough.
Round 21 will close tomorrow with the interesting clash between No.15 KGHM Cuprum Lubin and No.12 Ślepsk Malow Suwałki, at 8.30pm.
