Quarterfinals of 2023/24 Superlega CredemBanca continued today with the last three Games 3, with first two semifinalists, regular season winners Itas Trentino and second-placed Sir Susa Vim Perugia, both victorious with a 3-0 score in of best-of-five series.
For Trento, this was sixteenth semifinals in Club history, and they earned it after a convincing 3-0 (25:22, 25:19, 25:21) win over No.8 Valsa Group Modena.
Daniele Lavia was the man of the match with 17 points through 54% in attack, 2 aces and MVP award, closely followed by Kamil Rychlicki, who added 16 through 67% and well supported by middle-blockers duo Podrascanin-Kozamernik, authors of 8 of their team’s 9 winning blocks.
In semifinals, Trento will face the winners between Cucine Lube Civitanova and Mint Vero Volley Monza. In the series, the latter had a 2-0 lead, but today No.4 in regular season tried to re-open the game wit a hard-fought 3-2 (21:25, 30:28, 21:25, 25:22, 15:11) home win. The winners were slightly better in attack (53% to 46%), and also in the second part of the game, led by Marlon Yant, MVP and top scorer of the game, author of 27 points through 64% in attack, 1 ace and 3 winning block. Double digit also for Mattia Bottolo (10) and Adis Lagumdzija (13). Monza, on the other hand, was better from the service line with 10 aces to 4, led by canadian duo Arthur Szwarc, top scorer with 25 points and Stephen Maar, who added 22. Game 4 will be on Sunday, starting from 6pm local time.

The other semifinalist is Sir Susa Vim Perugia who down Rana Verona at tie break (25:22, 25:20, 22:25, 15:25, 17:15) after a roller coaster in front of 3800 home fans at PalaBarton. The hosts started strong above all from the service line, scoring 8 aces only in first teo sets but, with a 2-0 lead and even 16-12 in third one, collapsed and suffered the rivals’ comeback. In decisive fifth set Perugia has a 9-5 advantage, but Francesco Sani from the service line contributes to another comeback until the point from Kamil Semeniuk that closed the game at third match point, 17-15.
Numbers are very balanced, like the game itself: Perugia won the clash in serving with 11 aces to 4, Verona in blocking (12 to 7).
Setter Simone Giannelli was named MVP of the game, able to send four of his players in double digit: Kamil Semeniuk, top scorer with 18 points through 62% in attack, 14 each for Ben Tara, including 5 aces and 3 winning blocks and Roberto Russo (with 85% in attack), and 12 for Oleh Plotnytskyi.
Perugia, who back to Europe after a year of absence, will face in semifinal the winner between Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza and Allianz Milano.
Yesterday, Piacenza defeated the rivals after a thrilling tie break to take the 2-1 lead in the series. On Sunday, at 8.30pm local time, these two will face each others at Milano’s Allianz Cloud!
