Italy: quarterfinals started today! All ok for Trento and Perugia. Monza stun Civitanova, Milano down Piacenza at tie break!

Exciting Quarterfinal best-of-five series of 2023/24 Superlega CredemBanca playoffs started today with all four scheduled games.
No problem for titleholders and regular season winners Itas Trentino, who down No.8 Valsa Group Modena with a clear 3-0 (25:23, 25:18, 25:18) in front of their home fans at Trento’s ilT quotidiano Arena.
In first act of A22 derby, italian motorway that connects the two cities, the hosts were able to win a very balanced first set in which a better performance in blocking and Alessandro Michieletto and Kamil Rychlicki made the difference (12 in two only in first set, 29 at the end of the game), and then, in second and third set, they kept full control of the game from start to finish, led by setter Alessandro Acquarone and also by a very good Daniele Lavia, MVP of the game with 14 points to his name through 55% in attack and 2 aces and Jan Kozamernik, also in double digit with 70% in attack, with a block and 2 aces.
Predictions respected also for No.2 in regular season Sir Susa Vim Perugia, who needed four sets to prevail over No.7 Rana Verona, 3-1 (23:25, 25:16, 25:21, 25:19), after losing first set, closed by two aces from Amin.
The winners were better above all in attack, with 61% of team performance compared to Verona’s 49%, and in blocking, with 10 points from this element to the rivals’ 4, and were led by Wassim Ben Tara, well-deserved awarded as match’s MVP with 18 points to his name including 1 ace, 3 winning blocks and 65% in attack. Great game also for Kamil Semeniuk, top scorer with 24 points including 3 aces through 57% in attack, middle-blocker Roberto Russo, who also contributed with 16 through 77% in attack, with 4 aces and 2 winning blocks, and Oleh Plotnytskyi, also in double digit, who started from the bench and contributed with 12 points.
A mention also for setter Simone Giannelli, also with 5 points including 4 winning blocks, and libero Massimo Colaci, with a solid 56% in reception.
One of the news of the day come from Civitanova, where No.5 in regular season Mint Vero Volley Monza stun the hosts Cucine Lube Civitanova by winning the game with the score of 1-3 (26:28, 25:20, 11:25, 20:25).
To make the difference a better performance in attack, 52% to 42% and, above all, a stellar Erik Loeppky, MVP and top scorer of the game with 28 points to his name (60% in attack with 2 aces and 1 block), and 13 points only in decisive fourth set, well supported by his fellow countryman Arthur Szwarc, who added 18. Among the hosts, Marlon Yant with 16 was the most prolific player of the game, while Mattina Bottolo, author of 12 points like Alex Nikolov, took the field during the game but was probably the better one with 4 aces and 60% in attack.
Close the picture the exciting tie break win of No.6 Allianz Milano on the field of No.3 Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza – 2-3 (25:20, 21:25, 25:19, 22:25, 10:15).
In a game lasted more than 2 hours, decisive was the fourth set in which Milano, mostly thanks to two series from the service line from Matey Kaziyski, were able to stop the rivals’ comeback to force the game at tie break, in which they were able to lead from start to finish.
Three players ended the game in double digit for the winners: Ferre Reggers, top scorer with 18 points to his name, followed by Yuki Ishikawa who added 17, and MVP Marco Vitelli, who also contributed with 16.
