Italy: Trento, Perugia and Monza lead their quarterfinals series, Piacenza levels against Milano

In the Games 2 of the SuperLega Credem Banca PlayOff quarterfinals, Mint Vero Volley Monza and Itas Trentino have taken a 2-0 lead in their respective best-of-five series, while Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza secured a victory against Allianz Milano, and, in the evening, Sir Susa Vim Perugia defeated Rana Verona at the Pala Agsm AIM.
Regular season winners Itas Trentino narrowly defeated No.8 Modena at tie-break, winning 2-3 (22:25, 28:26, 25:15, 19:25, 13:15) in front of more than 3,800 volleyball fans at iconic Palapanini.
Behind 1-2 with a set loss 15-25, defending champions were able to re-open the game by winning fourth set and also a tie break after a comeback from 12-9 to the decisive 13-15, led by top scorer Alessandro Michieletto, who left the court with 20 points to his name through 53% in attack, 2 winning blocks and 2 aces, also decisive in serving at 13-13 in fifth set, with a direct point and one error from Rinaldi.
Great performance also from MVP Daniele Lavia, MVP with 16 through 52% in attack, and in Kamil Rychlicki, who added 15, but Angelo Lorenzetti’s players also made the difference in blocking, scoring 16 points from this element (6 from Kozamernik and 3 by Podrascanin).
No.5 Mint Vero Volley Monza celebrated another success over Cucine Lube Civitanova with a score of 3-1 (24:26, 25:18, 25:21, 25:20), demonstrating superior play in front of nearly home 2,500 supporters.
A victory that pushes Monza ahead with a 2-0 series lead.
Just like the previous season against Verona, the players around head coach Chicco Blengini will have to perform a comeback to keep their hope for semifinal alive.
To make the difference today was the hosts’ performance in serving, with 10 aces to 3, and in attack, with 8 block to 5 and several inaccuracies in attack. MVP of the game Ran Takahashi with 18 points, the same of Aleksandar Nikolov in Civitanova’s jersey, but double digit also for Arthur Szwarc (14) and Stephen Maar (12) for the winners, and Adis Lagumdzija (17) and Marlon Yant (12) on the other side of the net.
No.3 in regular season Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza managed to level the series against No.6 Allianz Milano by winning 3-1 (25:22, 20:25, 21:25, 14:25), overturning the home court advantage and setting the stage for a crucial next game, with a strong performance and 19 points including 4 aces and 1 block from MVP Ricardo Lucarelli, well supporter by Robertlandy Simon who added 17.
Sir Susa Vim Perugia defeated Rana Verona with a score of 3-1, marking the set scores as 25:21, 21:25, 16:25, 15:25. This win gives second-placed team in regular season a 2-0 lead in the series.
Just like in Game 1, Angelo Lorenzetti’s side managed to win the game after losing first set. Attack and blocking were the elements that made the difference (58% to 38% of team performance, and as many as 14 winning blocks compared to the rivals’7), while Kamil Semeniuk was named MVP of the game with 20 points to his name through 55% in attack, 67% in riception, 1 ace and 2 winning blocks. Double digit also for a great Wassim Ben Tara (17 points with 4 blocks), Oleh Plotnytskyi (12 with 2 aces through 56% in attack) and Flavio, who also contributed with 11 including 3 winning blocks. Excellent play also for liber Massimo Colaci and Setter Simone Giannelli, who also added 8 points, 4 in attack and 4 winning blocks.
As a result, Perugia, Monza and Trento are in strong positions to advance, while the series between Piacenza and Milan is now perfectly balanced, promising more exciting volleyball action in these SuperLega playoffs.
