Playoffs for 5th Place and a ticket for next edition of CEV Challenge Cup continued today with all three games of third round.
Current leaders Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza beat Valsa Group Modena with the score of 3-1 (25:15, 20:25, 25:16, 25:23). To make the difference 13 winning blocks, 5 only from Ricardo Lucarelli, but also Fabio Ricci with 88% in attack and Yuri Romanò, top scorer with 20 points.
Another defeat for Cucine Lube Civitanova, who suffered a 0-3 (22:25, 23:25, 17:25) home defeat against Rana Verona.
In a significant move that didn’t come as a complete surprise, last season’s runners-up announced that Coach Gianlorenzo Blengini has resigned, a decision that the club has accepted. This follows Blengini’s own admissions after Sunday’s match at the Kioene Arena, where he took full responsibility for the team’s loss, citing a failure to properly motivate the players. His resignation is seen as an attempt to revitalize the team ahead of their upcoming 5th Place Play Off matches.
For the remainder of the season, Romano Giannini took over as the head coach of Cucine Lube Civitanova, with Enrico Massaccesi serving as assistant coach.
The club expressed its gratitude towards Blengini, who, during his tenure, led Lube to three Italian Championships and one Italian Cup, wishing him success in his future endeavors.
And, about today, among the hosts, the only one player in double digit was Adis Lagumdzija (14 points with 2 aces and 2 winning blocks).
13 winning blocks, on the other hand, for Verona (7 blocks in two for both middleblockers), 16 points from Noumory Keita including 4 winning blocks, while MVP and top scorer was Amin (17) for a team that closed with 59% in attack.
Close the picture the four sets of Cisterna Volley over Pallavolo Padova 3-1 (19:25, 25:14, 25:21, 25:19), with 19 points from Theo Faure and young Alessandro Finauri MVP of the second game in starting six as libero.
