Italy: Perugia take the lead in Final series with a 4 sets win over Monza!

The opening match of 2023/24 SuperLega Credem Banca Playoff Final saw No.2 in regular season Sir Susa Vim Perugia secure a great 3-1 (27:25, 25:18, 23:25, 25:23) home win over Mint Vero Volley Monza at their full-packed PalaBarton.
The game was fiercely contested, with only the second set seeing a clear advantage.
In an intense first set, Perugia staged a remarkable comeback: trailing 15-21, the team rallied with the crowd’s support and a decisive service run by Semeniuk, ultimately taking the set 27-25 with a point from Flavio.
After a clear win in second set and the third one won by Monza, in four set the hosts tried to take the lead putting down the ball of 16-11, but Monza didn’t give up, led by a great Szwarc. However, with Leon and Solè on the field in place of Plotnytskyi and Flavio reacted, with an ace from the same Leon and an attack from Russo.
Perugia’s attack was notably more effective, achieving a 57% success rate compared to Monza’s 51%, but they dominated also in blocking with 14 points from this element to Monza’s five.
Perugia’s setter Simone Giannelli was named MVP for his orchestration of the offense, but also his personal tally of 6 points, including 5 blocks.
Other key contributors for the winners were Oleh Plotnytskyi with 18 points including 4 winnig blocks, Wassim Ben Tara with 17, Kamil Semeniuk with 13, and Roberto Russo with 12, including the one that closed the game and an impressive 79% in attack.
A mention also for libero Massimo Colaci, who left the court with 64% in reception!
For Monza, Ran Takahashi and Arthur Szwarc led the score with 18 points each, the latter impressing with a 78% attack rate from the second set onward.
The series now moves to Monza for Game 2, scheduled for Sunday, April 21 starting at 3.15pm local time.
