France: Round 2 continue – first win for Toulouse and defending champions Saint Nazaire. 3 points for Cannes
3 min read
After the advances played yesterday, won by Poitiers and Montpellier, Round 2 of 2024/25 Marmara Spike League continued today with other three games.
First win for Toulouse after the away defeat in their season opener a week ago against Nice. Today they celebrated a great home win against last season runners-up Tours in a game that has been solved only at tie break, 3-2 (25:21, 29:27, 22:25, 22:25, 15:13).
Julien Winkelmuller was the most prolific player for the winners, leaving the court after 2 hours and 3 minutes of play with 24 points to his name, all in attack, through 48% in attack, while Hermans Egleskalns scored 29 points including 1 winning block through 53% in attack on the other side of the net.
3 points for newcomers Cannes and defending champions Saint Nazaire, who faced each other last Friday in the opener of new French volleyball season.
The first one won on the field of Narbone with the score of 1-3 (27:29, 25:22, 17:25, 22:25), with a great performance in blocking, scoring 12 points from this element compared to the hosts’ 7, and led by Reda Haikal, MVP of last game and today top scorer among the winners with 17 points to his name through 67% in attack with 1 ace and 2 winning blocks, and an almost perfect Omar Biglino, who also contributed with 14 including 4 winning blocks and 100% in attack (10/10)!
On the other side of the net, Lisandro Zanotti left the court with 18 points including 1 ace, 1 block and 67% in attack.
Close the picture the straight sets home win of Saint Nazaire over Plessis Robinson, 3-0 (25:19, 25:20, 25:22), with 4 players in double digit: 14 for top scorer Helder Mendes Spencer (73% in attack, 3 winning blocks and 3 aces), Jordan Ewert who added 13, Titouan Halle with 11 and Luuc Van Der Ent with 10.
Round 2 will close tomorrow with the postponement between Sète, who will start their 2024/25 season after a dayoff in Round 1, and Tourcoing, who won at tie break against Chaumont their first game last week.
