Poland: Round 5 continues – Lublin (temporarily) to the top! Częstochowa stun Jastrzębski. 3 points for ZAKSA

After the advance played yesterday, in which Cuprum Stilon Gorzów defeated newcomers Nowak-Mosty MKS Będzin in four sets, Round 5 of 2024/25 Plusliga continued today with other three games.
Surely a great start for BOGDANKA LUK Lublin, who claimed their fifth victory in as many games today with a home success against Asseco Resovia Rzeszów, with the score of 3-1 (25:18, 23:25, 25:18, 17:25).
To make the difference today was another great performance from top scorer Wilfredo Leon, who left the court with 21 points to his name through 47% in attack, 5 of his team’s 13 winning blocks (9 points from this element for the visiting side), 11 aces and 14 points from Bennie Tuinstra, MVP of the game with 1 ace, 1 block and 52% in attack. Bartosz Bednorz scored 18 points for Resovia with 2 aces and 48% in attack.
The day continue with the away win of ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle on the field of Trefl Gdańsk, 0-3 (26:28, 22:25, 23:25), in front of almost 5000 volleyball fans at Ergo Arena.
Despite a better performance in blocking for the hosts (12 to 7), the winners won a hard-fought game led in score by Mateusz Rećko, top scorer of the match with 20 points to his name through 49% in attack and 1 winning block, and MVP Igor Grobelny, who added 19 through 61% in attack and 2 aces. Moustapha M’Baye and Jakub Jarosz scored 12 points each for the hosts.
In the evening Steam Hemarpol Norwid Częstochowa caused a sensation with a 3-2 (25:22, 23:25, 19:25, 25:21, 15:10) win over defending champions Jastrzębski Węgiel.
In the biggest upset, Patrik Indra delivered an outstanding performance, scoring as many as 31 points through 63% in attack, 4 winning blocks and earning a well-deserved MVP honors. Jastrzębski’s loss marks their first defeat of the season.
Round 5 will continue tomorrow with the clash between PGE GiEK Skra Bełchatów and Ślepsk Malow Suwałki, while Indykpol AZS Olsztyn will welcome PSG Stal Nysa.
