Although a better start in last three sets, Modena was not able to compete with the rivals’ play, led by Alessandro Michieletto (16 points including 3 winning blocks and 52%) and Gabi Garcia (13 through 46%), who made the difference in decisive moments of the game.
For Modena, Tommaso Rinaldi and Paul Buchegger scored 46 points in two but their team made too many mistakes.
And what about the longest game played in Superlega since rally point system era?
This is the one between Yuasa Battery Grottazzolina and Sonepar Padova, closed by Luca Porro (1 attack and the decisive ace) with the score of 2-3 (28:26, 20:25, 28:30, 25:20, 16:18) and after two hours and 58 minutes of play, in front of more than 1500 home fans at a very hot PalaSavelli!
Veljko Masulovic close the game as top scorer tallying 26 points for the winners.
Sir Susa Vim Perugia, now at third place in the standings with 11 points behind Piacenza and Trento, earned 3 points after a 3-1 (19:25, 25:15, 25:16, 25:18) over Cisterna Volley, l despite the absence of Simone Giannelli, well replaced by Francesco Zoppellari, also author of 6 points including 3 winning blocks.
Oleh Plotnytskyi, back to the starting six, was name MVP of the match with 20 points, 58% in attack and 6 aces.
Great show in the derby between Vero Volley Monza and Allianz Milano that closed the round, with first two sets ended overtime (29-31 and 26-24), and the last two both 22-25, but with two sides closely until 20. Thanks to this success the winners now boast 6 points in the standings together with Civitanova and Padova, while Monza remain with 2 together newcomers Grottazzolina.
First set was a battle and, despite Monza made something better in blocking with Gabriele Di Martino author of 3 of his team’s 4, Milano was more efficient in attack (56% to 49%). Monza led almost all second set, but then suffered the comeback from 23-20 to 24-24, but this time they managed to close it with Di Martino. After other two very balanced sets, almost until the end, Ferre Reggers was named MVP of the game scoring 29 points in four sets through 61% in attack with 4 winning blocks. Best scorer on the other side of the net Arthur Szwarc with 23 points, while Ivan Zaytsev, at his seasonal debut, tallied 7.
