France: 3 points for Cannes (who won the derby!) and Montpellier. Epic comeback for Saint Nazaire in Round 5

Midweek Round 5 of 2024/25 Marmara Spike League started today with first three games, and not without upsets and exciting duels.
Great success for newcomers Cannes in derby against Nice, in a game ended in just three sets, 3-0, partially 30:28, 25:20 and 25:22.
In front of more 1000 home fans, and after an exciting first sets lasted 38 minutes and in which the visiting side almost always led the game also earning a 10-16 lead, the players around head coach Roberto Serniotti were able to keep a strong play, winning the game in straight sets making the difference above all in blocking, scoring 11 points from this element against the rivals’5.
Reda Haikal scored 15 points for the winners through 52% in attack, 1 afe and 2 winning blocks, while a good Simon Hirsch, top scorer of the game with 22 points to his name through 53% in attack and 2 blocks wasn’t enough for Nice, who also suffered the bad day of their outside hitters Alexandros Raptis and Nooa Marttila, who left the court with only 7 and 5 points, respectively, while jocker medical Samuele Tuia, who joined the team last week, added 2.
Straight sets win also for Montpellier, who continuer their winning streak by beating Chaumont after 1 hours and 45 minutes of play with the score of 3-0 (25:21, 26:24, 30:28).
With an excellent Tomas Lopez, top scorer of the game with 16 points to his name through 72% in attack including 2 winning blocks and 1 ace, and a clear superiority in blocking (8 to 1), the winners remained to the top of the standings with 14 points, followed by Tourcoing with 10, and Poitiers with 9. These two will face eache others tomorrow in a direct clash for second place.
After being down 0-2, titleholders Saint Nazaire performed a thrilling comeback in front at their home fans against Narbonne then winning the game with the score of 3-2 (22:25, 25:27, 25:19, 25:23, 16:14) after 2 hours and 17 minutes of intense play. Henri Leon was almost perfect for the winners, leaving the court as top scorer with 31 points, all in attack, through an impressive 70%!
Casey Schouten scored 27 points for the losing side.
Round 5 will close tomorrow with other three games. In addition to the clash for second place, Toulouse will welcome last-placed Plessis Robinson, while Sète, after their amazing home win against Poitiers on Sunday, will play on the field of Paris.
