Poland: BOGDANKA LUK Lublin and Jastrzębski Węgiel shared first place after victories in Round 8

In Round 8 of 2024/25 PlusLiga, titleholders Jastrzębski Węgiel defeated Trefl Gdańsk 3-1 (29:27, 28:30, 25:20, 25:13). After a tense 2-set tie, defending champions surged ahead in the third and fourth sets to claim the victory, three league points, and first place in the standings with the same number of points of BOGDANKA LUK Lublin, who emerged victorious against ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle in just three sets (25:16, 25:22, 25:20).
Top scorers for Jastrzębski Węgiel, more effective in attack and serving (5 aces to 3), were MVP Tomasz Fornal with 22 points to his name including 62% attack efficiency and two aces, Timothee Carle with 19, while Anton Brehme and Arkadiusz Żakieta each contributing 13.
Trefl Gdańsk’s standout performers included Piotr Orczyk with 14 points and Jakub Jarosz with 13.
In another exciting 8th-round match, in the evening, Bogdanka LUK Lublin secured a dominant victory against ZAKSA, in what was their eighth consecutive triumph, making them the only undefeated team and the current league leaders also with 22 points in current charts.
The team will face a major test in an upcoming clash with PGE Projekt Warszawa on Saturday in Round 9, who currently are third-placed with 20 points in the standings.
Decisive today Wilfredo Leon with 17 points, Kewin Sasak with 12, and Bennie Tuinstra with 10 points. ZAKSA’s top scorer was Mateusz Rećko with 16 points. The winners excelled in attack, serving (5 aces from Leon), and blocking, outperforming ZAKSA 8-3 in blocks, while Marcin Komenda was named MVP of the match.
Fragmented Round 8 will continue on Tuesday, November 5 with the clash between Barkom Każany Lwów and Indykpol AZS Olsztyn, while Round 9 of Plusliga will start on Friday with the advance between Ślepsk Malow Suwałki and PSG Stal Nysa.
