Challenge Cup: Lublin destroy Tel Aviv in first leg of 16th finals. 6 teams qualified to 8th Finals

16th finals of 2024/25 CEV Challenge Cup continued today with other 7 games.
In last clash of first leg, played at Hala Globus Tomasz Wójtowicz in Lublin, Poland, all easy for Bogdanka LUK Lublin, who trampled over Maccabi Tel-Aviv from Israel in a clean 3-0 (25:16, 25:11, 25:20) in just 65 minutes of play. Second leg, in the same venue, already tomorrow.
After losing in four sets first leg 24 hours ago, Epicentr – Podolyany Horodok from Ukraine was very close to stun the hosts of CSKA Sofia at their Hristo Botev with a win with the same result, 1-3 (22:25, 25:23, 20:25, 18:25).
However, luckily for the Bulgarians, the team from country’s capital managed to win decisive Golden Set after a hard-fought 17-15, despite a strong start of the visiting side and 28 points from Vojin Cacic, absolute top scorer of the match with 28 points through 59% in attack, 1 ace and 3 winning blocks. Radoslav Parapunov scored 17 points for the winners, all in attack, through 55%.
Golden set also for Karađorđe Topola from Serbia who, after a heavy straight sets defeat in Estonia in first leg, surprisingly eliminates most quoted Tartu Bigbank after a 3-1 (26:24, 20:25, 25:15, 25:23) home win and then at Golden Set, also closed 17-15. To make the difference 12 winning blocks as well as 26 points from top scorer Alija Bekric, including 1 ace, 4 blocks and 55% in attack.
To Round of 16 also The Netherlands’ Nova Tech Lycurgus Groningen, who easily defeated VC Lorentzweiler from Luxembourg, also rejecting the rivals’ attempt to re-open the game in third set, 3-0 (25:18, 25:17, 27:25), and outclassing them in blocking (8 to 1) and serving, with 10 aces to 2.
Another win also for Germany’s WWK Volleys Herrsching, who down Cisneros Alter Tenerife from Spain by 3-1 (25:23, 25:15, 24:26, 25:23), with 14 winning blocks and 19 points from top scorer Filip John, and for France’s Tourcoing Lille Métropole, who celebrated a great 3-2 (23:25, 22:25, 25:19, 25:20, 15:13) home win against Greek powerhouse Panathinaikos Athens, the same result of first leg in Greece, also solved at tie break. Again great protagonist of the success, Pablo Koukartsev, top scorer of the match with 25 points through 46% in attack, 1 block and 1 ace, well supported by Jan Martinez Franchi who added 17, also with 1 ace and 1 block through 63% in attack.
After winning first leg in four sets in Spain, CV Melilla repeated themselves also in Portugal celebrating a 2-3 (24:26, 25:27, 25:18, 25:21, 13:15) on the field of the hosts Fonte Bastardo Azores, after 143 minutes of play, with 29 points from top scorer Federico Martina (52% in attack and 2 blocks) and 23 from Gabriel Del Carmen (63% in attack and 1 ace).
