Austria: HYPO TIROL win big match of Round 12. 3 points also for Ried, Aich/Dob, Waldviertel and Graz

Champion HYPO TIROL volleyball team will into the new year undefeated, and they did it after winning the 12th powerfusion VL Men Round against TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg 3-0 (25:17, 26:24, 25:23), leading the regular season with an eight-point lead over their closest pursuers UVC McDonald’s Ried, who took advantage to this result to climb to second place.
Today down last-placed VBK Kelag Wörther-See-Löwen Klagenfurt by 3-1 (21:25, 25:18, 25:14, 25:15), a team that will enter the new year without a win.
SK Zadruga Aich/Dob won 3-0 (25:18, 25:19, 25:22) against TJ Sokol V/Post SV Wien, sharing the same number of points of Hartberg, two points behind Ried.
Aich/Dob will go into the two-week Christmas break with a confident away, and in February they will have the chance to defend their Austrian Volley Cup title, facing HYPO TIROL in the final.
Sokol has been waiting for a win since the end of November, and the 0-3 against Aich/Dob was their fourth defeat in a row. The gap to a place in the top half of the table is already eleven points.
Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel won the Lower Austria derby against newcomers Sportunion z+p St. Pölten, 3-0 (27:25, 25:20, 34:32), led by Zachary Palankai-Omoshebi, top scorer of the match with 19 points, Paul Nusterer who added 17, and Niklas Stooß with 10. Georg Köstler with 14, Jonah Zelenka and Ralph Klaffinger with 10 each were the most prolific players on the other side of the net.
The last game of Round 12 took place in Graz’s Raiffeisen Sportpark, where the hosts UVC Holding Graz celebrated a 3-1 (21:25, 25:13, 25:15, 25:22) win over VCA Amstetten NÖ. The home team’s 4-set victory means that they celebrate Christmas in fifth place, three points ahead of Waldviertel, while Amstetten remains at 8th place, two points ahead of St. Pölten.
Top scorers of the match were Arwin Kopschar (17) and David Reiter (14) for the winners, and Balazs Bibok (23) and Balint Kecskemeti (18) for the visiting side.
