Italian Serie A3 – Cagliari down Sarroch in Sardinia derby

3 min read

Probably not the news you expect to read on an international volleyball website that follows the main European Leagues, as well as the most important international events. We have personally followed several World and European Championships from start to finish, the Olympics, the European cups, Champions League including superfinals…
It sounds good, and this will not even be the photo gallery you expect to see on this news organization, which has grown over the years, reaching remarkable milestones (and numbers).
Yet today I wanted to propose something different, a window on the Serie A3, telling with a gallery the Sardinian derby between Cagliari and Sarroch, a match valid for Round 1 of the second leg of the White Group, Girone Bianco, in Italian. Yes, because the Serie A3 is divided into two groups, White and Blue and, even if due to lack of time, and perhaps lack of interest, I had never followed this part of Italian volleyball.
A beautiful match, like Sardinia itself, played with heart by both sides, in a warm and friendly Pala Pirastu, the same one that hosted two big names in European volleyball last Thursday, Trentino Itas and Portugal’s Benfica, in the second leg match of the CEV Cup 8th finals.
So I would like to thank the club, Cus Cagliari, and both teams that were able to give moments of splendid volleyball, the warm crowd and the pleasant discovery that, every now and then, it is also nice to break the mold, and have the courage to propose something different. Even something that others would never expect.
About the game, I discovered that the visiting side, Sarroch, came from 4th victories in a row, a series that came into a end in the derby, in which opposite Morgan Biasotto led the charge with 25 points, followed by Stefano Gozzo, who added 17, while Hristiyan Dimitrov was the most prolific player on the losing side.
With Personal Time San Donà di Piave to the top of Pool standings with 23 points, followed by Gabbiano FarmaMed Mantova with 20, Belluno Volley and Negrini CTE Acqui Terme with 19, Sarlux Sarroch and CUS Cagliari shared 5th place both with 15 points.
See you soon, Serie A3, with a mention also for the guy of Special Olympics Italia Team Sardegna (look at their website to discover their activities).
