Poland: Resovia open Round 26 with a tie break win over Gdańsk

Round 26 of 2024/25 Plusliga or, if you prefer, Round 11 of second leg, started today with the advance between Asseco Resovia Rzeszów and Trefl Gdańsk, that has been solved only at 21-19 in decisive fifth set, 3-2 (22:25, 25:19, 25:17, 21:25, 21:19), marking Resovia’s 10th consecutive win.
The visiting side took the first set despite losing captain Lukas Kampa to injury. Stephen Boyer responded with a dominant serving performance, leading Resovia to claim the next two sets. Gdańsk fought back in the fourth one, pushing the match to a decisive tie-break.
The decisive set saw Resovia take control early, but another setback came when Bartosz Bednorz left the court injured. Despite the pressure, Resovia responded strong, clinching a 21:19 win to continue their unbeaten run.
After 142 minutes of play, Stephen Boyer led the charge with 30 points to his name through 60% in attack and 6 of his team’s 11 aces. Klemen Čebulj also contributed with 21 meanwhile Aliaksei Nasevich was Gdansk’s top scorer with 20 points.
With this victory, Asseco Resovia cements their 6th-place in the standings and now shifts focus to a crucial CEV Cup quarterfinal rematch against Fenerbahçe. In first leg, they won in four sets in Turkey.
Round 26 will continue tomorrow with other three games: Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie will welcome Ślepsk Malow Suwałki, PSG Stal Nysa will face last-placed Nowak-Mosty MKS Będzin while, in the evening, GKS Katowice will welcome Cuprum Stilon Gorzów.
