Tourcoing-Lille Métropole secured their second-ever Coupe de France title in club’s history after a nail-biting five-set win over Marmara SpikeLigue regular season winners Montpellier in Gran Finale, 3-2 (25:23, 23:25, 25:22, 22:25, 15:11), in a game played with a high-level volleyball and determination from both sides.
Montpellier, protagonists of a great season, pushed Tourcoing to the limit, despite losing first set with the minimum gap, but won tue second one mostly thanks to a solid defense to equalize the match. l
In the third one, Montpellier held a four-point lead (16-12), but Tourcoing rallied back, tying at 19-19 before stealing the set.
Tourcoing stayed in the fight, eventually falling to Montpellier in fourth set, forcing a deciding tie-break, in which they take a early led to eventually seal the win.
In a very balanced game, also looking at numbers, Pablo Koukartsev led the charge with 28 points to his name through 49% in attack and 1 block, while Ezequiel Palacios tallied 22 for Montpellier including 4 of his team’s 8 aces and 47% efficiency in attack.
This marks Tourcoing’s second French Cup victory, after their first one in 2018!
