Austria: all results of the weekend. Sokol and Ried win Game 1 for 7th and 5th Place

3 min read

Waiting for final, in which defending champions Hypo Tirol Volleyball Team will face TSV Hartberg in a remake of last season, four games of 2024/25 Powerfusion VL were played this weekend.
UVC McDonald’s Ried won the first leg for 5th place at Zwettl Stadthalle against the hosts Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel in just three sets (16:25, 21:25, 23:25) on Sunday evening. The second leg will take place next Saturday at Raiffeisen Volleydome.

“The teams,” said MVP Markus Berger, “know each other really well. We’re happy that we played so confidently and now we are ready for next week.”

On the other hand, URW’s Richard Peemüller is not satisfied with the result: “We need to adjust our attack and be more patient. Our serving also needs improvement.”

Meanwhile, TJ Sokol V/Post SV Wien beat VCA Amstetten NÖ 3-1 (25:22, 17:25, 25:14, 25:11) on Saturday evening and need only two sets to finish the season at 7th place.
Second leg on Friday at Amstetten’s Johann-Pölz-Halle.

Michael Henschke, the Mostviertel-based team’s sporting director, described his team’s performance in the Posthalle as “insane” and “actually incomprehensible,” demanding a clear victory in the return match to take a chance with the golden set. “I expect us to finish in 7th place,” he said

In the relegation group, current leaders Sportunion z+p St. Pölten earned three points with a 3-0 (25:18, 25:21, 25:21) victory over VBC TLC Weiz (4th), while VBK Kelag Wörther-See-Löwen Klagenfurt (2nd) also secured a 3-0 (25:21, 25:19, 25:21) victory over hotVolleys (5th) in Wien. Both sides sit firmly in the top two since last weekend and will be part of Austrian top division also next season.
