Italy: Perugia win Game 1 for 3rd Place against Piacenza

2024/25 Superlega CredemBanca playoffs best-of-three series for third place started today with Game 1 between Sir Susa Vim Perugia and Gas Sales BluEnergy Piacenza, ended with the score of 3-1 (37:35, 25:18, 19:25, 25:18) in favor of the home team, eliminated in Semifinal Game 5 against a super Cucine Lube Civitanova, now competing in Gran Finale against Itas Trentino, who sweep Piacenza in just three games.
Wassim Ben Tara led all scorers with 18 points to his name, well supported by Oleh Plotnytskyi, who added 14, Kamil Semeniuk, who also comtributed with 13, and Sebastian Solé, also in double digit with 12 points, awarded MVP of the match.
The hosts took the first two sets, dropped the third, but closed strong in the fourth one.
Piacenza’s Stephen Maar and Efe Mandiraci each scored 16 points, but 13 attack errors, including six in the final set, that cost them dearly. With Game 2 set for Saturday, May 3 in Piacenza, the home side must win to keep their playoff hopes alive to return to Perugia for an eventual decisive Game 3, scheduled next week.
