Poland: Round 5 continues – Lublin and ZAKSA won big matches against Jastrzębski and Resovia

Started a week ago and continued yesterday with the success of newcomers InPost ChKS Chełm over Steam Hemarpol Politechnika Częstochowa, fragmented Round 5 of 2025/26 Plusliga continued today with other two games.
In the evening, Asseco Resovia suffered first defeat of the season after a dramatic 2-3 (25:21, 15:25, 20:25, 25:22, 12:15) loss to ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle in a match in which both teams exchanging control throughout.
Resovia delivered strong serving with eight aces, but ZAKSA’s sharper attack at 55% efficiency and stronger blocking advantage of 10–6 confirmed the game’s balance. Igor Grobelny led the winners with 19 points to his name and earned MVP honors thanks to a 61% attacking rate, four blocks, and an ace, while Rafał Szymura added 18 points, and Kamil Rychlicki and Karol Urbanowicz also contributed with 13 each. For Resovia, the top scorers were Jakub Bucki with 14 points, Yacine Louati with 12, and Karol Butryn with 10.
Meanwhile, JSW Jastrzębski Węgiel also ended the round with a home defeat, losing 1-3 (15:25, 28:26, 26:28, 17:25) in another big match against Bogdanka LUK Lublin, that snapped their losing streak with a composed and powerful performance, outperforming the hosts in serving with 10 aces, blocking with an 11–9 edge, and attack.
Kewin Sasak led the charge with 24 points, followed by Wilfredo Leon with 17, Aleks Grozdanow with 14, and Hilir Henno with 10, while Jastrzębski’s top scorers were Miran Kujundzić and Łukasz Usowicz with 13 each, and Michał Gierżot with 10. The hosts were further weakened when Nicolas Szerszeń left the match injured during the second set. Setter Marcin Komenda earned MVP award.
Plusliga will continue on Friday with the advance of Round 7 between PGE GiEK SKRA Bełchatów and Steam Hemarpol Politechnika Częstochowa.
