Italy: legendary setter Marco Falaschi bids farewell to volleyball

It was supposed to be Modena’s new player but, in a direct on Sunday evening, Marco Falaschi officially said goodbye to volleyball, writing the news also in a post on his Instagram account:

“I had expectations for this year, and as everyone knows, expectations are often very different from reality.

I won’t hide it — the idea was to keep playing a little longer, above all to keep enjoying it for a little while more. But life is unpredictable, and it often puts you in front of choices that, if it were up to you, you would postpone forever — like hanging up your shoes.

Still, it’s not something I want to force right now. Health remains high on my list of priorities, right at the top, and because of that I don’t feel like tempting fate, if such a thing even exists.

Admitting it to myself will be difficult. My life has always gone hand in hand with volleyball, and I don’t expect to process it overnight.

But as I said before, expectations often don’t help, so from now on I’ll look for new motivations and new challenges, hopefully without straying too far from what I’ve done and loved my whole life.

There are so many people I should thank, but after more than 20 years of playing volleyball, one post could never be enough.

It has been an honor to wear every one of these jerseys. Beyond the wins and losses, every person I met along this journey gave me something that I will carry with me into this new chapter of my life.

I wish it could have ended differently, but c’est la vie, my dear volley…”

At 39, he spent last two season in Padova as captain, but he boasted a remarkable career in several italian clubs, including Santa Croce, Spoleto, Castellana Grotte, Siena, Civitanova and Taranto, but also experiences in Montenegro and Poland.
