Alex Nikolov tops VNL scoring and attacking charts despite Bulgaria missing the Finals

Aleksandar Nikolov delivered one of the standout individual performances of the 2026 Volleyball Nations League, finishing the competition as both the tournament’s top scorer and best attacker despite Bulgaria failing to qualify for the Final Eight.

The Bulgarian outside hitter closed his campaign with 278 points, edging Slovenia’s Nik Mujanović by the narrowest of margins after the Slovenian finished with 277. What makes the achievement even more remarkable is that Mujanović played three more matches on Slovenia’s run to the bronze medal. Belgium’s Ferre Reggers completed the top three with 268 points.
Nikolov’s dominance was even more evident in the attacking statistics. He led the competition with 247 attack points at an impressive 53.93% success rate, comfortably holding on to first place until the end of the tournament.
Reggers ranked second with 246 attack points, while Mujanović finished third with 236.

The final rankings underline the consistency of the Bulgarian star throughout the VNL season. Neither Mujanović—his closest rival in the race for the scoring title—nor Reggers, who will also become one of his rivals in the upcoming Italian SuperLega season, managed to overtake him despite having additional opportunities to do so.

Although Bulgaria’s campaign ended before the Finals, Nikolov’s outstanding individual numbers remained untouched.
Finishing first in both the scoring and attacking rankings underlines not only his offensive quality but also his consistency across the tournament, confirming him as one of the brightest stars of the 2026 Volleyball Nations League.
