The latest weekly episode of VolleyBar brings another packed roundup from the world of volleyball, with major moves, historic milestones and international action taking centre stage.

Scandinavian-Argentinian setter Axel Jacobsen has joined Ordu VK in Azerbaijan.
Throughout his career, the experienced Danish national team captain has been a driving force for every team he has represented, helping clubs win league titles, domestic cups and enjoy memorable European campaigns. Most recently, he lifted the 2026 Coupe de France with Paris Volley.
Also making a major move is Alas Pilipinas setter Joshua “Owa” Retamar, who is preparing for a new chapter in his career after joining the same Azerbaijan-based club for the upcoming season.
The transfer represents not only an important milestone for the player personally, but also a new chapter in Philippine volleyball history: Owa will become the first-ever Filipino player to represent an Azerbaijani club, while also becoming only the second Filipino to compete in the CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup, following libero John Caringal.

Lukas Glatz has extended his stay with Verona Volley, setting up a historic situation for Austrian volleyball.
For the first time in Austrian volleyball history, in fact, two Austrian players will represent the same club in Italy’s top division! Glatz will remain with the reigning Coppa Italia champions and will now share the court with fellow Austrian Paul Buchegger.
And there is an additional Olympic connection: the pair will also play alongside Anders Mol, the Norwegian beach volleyball star and Tokyo Olympic gold medallist, who is set to make his move to indoor volleyball!

In Poland, Polish middle blocker Dawid Siwczyk completes another piece of Cuprum Stilon Gorzów’s puzzle.
He has spent the last five seasons with Indykpol AZS Olsztyn, and will now take his experience to Gorzów Wielkopolski.
During his senior career, the middle blocker has also represented BKS Visła Bydgoszcz, Olimpia Sulęcin and Austrian side Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel. It was during his time in Austria that he claimed a bronze medal in the Austrian Bundesliga, as well as two silver medals in the national championship.

Poland to host the FIVB Men’s Club World Championship in 2026 and 2027!
Poland is set to remain at the centre of the international volleyball calendar, with the Śląskie region confirmed as host of the FIVB Men’s Club World Championship for both 2026 and 2027.

Iranian beach volleyball players Abbas Pourasgari and Alireza Aghajani have been named the winners of the Fans’ Choice Men’s Beach Volleyball Award at the inaugural AVC Gala 2026.
Presented by the City of Candon through Mayor Eric Singson, the Fans’ Choice Beach Volleyball Awards recognise the men’s and women’s pairs who received the most votes from fans across Asia.
Pourasgari and Aghajani will be officially honoured during the 1st AVC Gala Awards Night, which will take place on 8 August 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand.
Also Coach Ferhat Akbaş is honored as the Volleyball Coach of the Year at the 1st AVC Gala Awards Night.
Recognized for leading Japan’s women’s national team to an outstanding campaign, he will be celebrated alongside Asia’s brightest volleyball stars.

Korea remain undefeated and have booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2026 Asian Eastern Zonal Men’s Volleyball Championship after sweeping Macao 3–0, winning 25:18, 25:16, 25:15.
The reigning zonal champions continue their dominant campaign in Ulaanbaatar.
Meanwhile, Japan secured their second victory after defeating Chinese Taipei in straight sets, but the scoreline of the final set tells the story: 25:18, 25:18, 40:38.
The third set turned into an extraordinary marathon, with Japan eventually edging Chinese Taipei 40–38 after an incredible battle.

Venezuela have secured a direct place in the semi-finals of the U17 Pan American Cup, topping Pool A after defeating Guatemala 3–0 (25:21, 25:15, 25:20).
Costa Rica finished second, while Guatemala took third place, with both teams advancing to the quarter-finals scheduled for 7 August:

Meanwhile, in the opening round of the Copa Sudamericana, Argentina got their campaign off to a winning start with a 3–0 victory over Bolivia (25:16, 25:22, 25:22). Lucas Conde led all scorers with 11 points, helping Argentina begin the competition on a positive note.
