France: Thomas Pujol set to leave Poitiers for Poland

Thomas Pujol’s time at Poitiers is coming to an unexpected end.
The Alterna Stade Poitevin VB has reached an agreement in principle for the departure of the 21-year-old French outside hitter, who had originally been expected to remain with the club for the next two seasons.

Pujol arrived in Poitiers ahead of the 2024/25 season, after developing through the French national youth system and France Avenir. At just 19, he immediately became part of Poitiers’ young French core, gradually earning a more prominent role in the team.
His breakthrough came during his second season, when he was one of the key figures in Poitiers’ run to the 2025/26 Marmara SpikeLigue final, helping the club reach the championship decider for the second consecutive season.
His performances were rewarded with two major individual honours: he was named Best Young Player of the season and Best Outside Hitter, while also being included in the league’s best starting six.

The rise of the 1.98m receiver-attacker also earned him his first call-up to the senior France national team in 2026, marking another important step in what has been a remarkably fast progression.

Poitiers initially opposed the idea of letting one of the most important pieces of its 2026/27 roster leave, particularly after Pujol had been expected to stay.
However, with the player expressing a clear desire to embrace a new challenge, the club eventually opened negotiations and the parties have now reached an agreement in principle.
The destination is expected to be Poland, with Pujol set to join a major club in one of Europe’s most competitive volleyball leagues.

For Poitiers, it is another confirmation of the club’s ability to develop young French talent and provide them with a platform for the international stage. For Pujol, meanwhile, the move represents the natural next step after two seasons in which he went from promising teenager to one of the most exciting young receivers in French volleyball.
Poitiers have already begun working on bringing in a replacement to complete Dan Lewis’ squad for the new season.

He will join ZAKSA Kędzierzyn-Koźle.
