Four sets win for Belgium and Serbia in their EuroVolley 2026 debut in Tampere

Belgium opened their EuroVolley campaign with a convincing 3-1 (25:14, 18:25, 25:17, 25:14) victory over the Netherlands in Pool C in Tampere, Finland.
The Belgians immediately set the tone, dominating the opening set and leaving the Netherlands little room to find their rhythm. Belgium took it 25-14, but the response from the Dutch side was immediate. The Netherlands raised their level in the second set and levelled the match with an 18-25 win.
The momentum did not last, however. Belgium regained control in the third set, establishing a clear advantage before closing it 25-17. The fourth followed a similar pattern, with Belgium once again taking command from the beginning and finishing the match 25-14.
Belgium therefore secured three important points from their opening match, while the Netherlands will look to bounce back in their next encounter.

Serbia were made to work considerably harder for their opening victory, eventually overcoming Estonia 3-1 (25:23, 26:24, 26:28, 25:22) in a match that featured three extremely tight sets.
The first was decided by the smallest of margins, with Serbia edging Estonia 25-23. The second proved even more dramatic.
Estonia reached 24-21 and appeared to have a clear opportunity to level the match, but Serbia refused to give up. Lazar Marinović stepped to the service line, Nemanja Mašulović produced a crucial block and Dražen Luburić completed the comeback as Serbia won five of the next seven points to take the set 26-24.
Estonia responded with another strong fight in the third. Serbia led 9-6 before the Estonians produced a six-point run to turn the score around to 12-9. The remainder of the set remained extremely close, and this time Estonia managed to hold their nerve in the decisive exchanges, taking it 28-26 to stay alive.
Serbia, however, did not allow the comeback to continue.
They opened up a 14-10 advantage in the fourth set and, unlike in the previous frame, managed to protect it all the way to the finish. Estonia continued to push, but Serbia closed out the set 25-22 to claim the four-set victory.
Dražen Luburić led Serbia with 20 points, while Lazar Marinović and Pavle Perić contributed 16 apiece. Nemanja Mašulović finished with nine points, and Veljko Mašulović added eight after coming off the bench.
For Serbia, it was ultimately a victory built on their ability to survive the crucial moments. Estonia came within touching distance of taking control of the match more than once, but Serbia found the answers when the pressure was highest.
