After the advance played yesterday, in which Paris won at tie break on the field of Montpellier, Round 12 of 2023/24 Marmara Spike League ended today with the other six games.
Chaumont continued to win, keeping the leadership in the competition after a great 0-3 (19:25, 25:27, 22:25) win on the field of Sète.
Now, in fact, taking advantage from the unexpected defeat of Nantes, they are to the top at +5!
Patrick Indta ended the game as top scorer with 18 points to his name through 55% in attack with 1 ace and 1 block, but to make the difference were the performance in blocking, with Chaumont scoring 12 points from this element, compared to the hosts’ only 2! Celestin Cardin was the most prolific player for Sète with 3 points but with only 44% in attack and, about blocking, he was blocked 7 times (plus 3 errors).
Behind them again Nantes, despite the defeat on the field of last placed Narbonne who, after beating Nice a week ago, today confirmed themselves with a great win against the No.2 in the standings! Edson Alberto Valencia Gonzalez scored 20 points for the winners, including 1 block and 61% in attack, while Chizoba Neves Atu tallied 23 for Nantes.
3 points also for third-placed Toulouse, who won on the field of Plessis Robinson by 1-3 (21:25, 19:25, 25:22, 18:25) with 18 points from an excellent Fabian Krage: for him also 5 winning blocks, 2 aces and 79% in attack. He was supported by Maxime Hervoir, who also contributed with 17 and Lohan Nack Minyem, who added 14 with 3 block points and 85% in attack! Double digit also for Nathan Canovas and Nathan Wounembaina, who scored 18 and 11 points respectively for the losing side.
What was probably the most interesting game of the day, at least on paper, between Tourcoing and Saint Nazaire ended with the score of 3-2 (25:21, 20:25, 20:25, 25:23, 15:11) in favor of the hosts. Both sides now boast 24 points in the standings, together with Montpellier!
But another match ended at tie break today, with Nice very very very close to defeat titleholders Tours, able to win the game only at tie break and only after recovered from a 2-1 gap (25:21, 17:25, 25:21, 22:25, 13:15).
PHOTOGALLERY OF THE MATCH
Despite the absences of François Rebeyrol and Franco Medina, the hosts played really a great game, and collapsed only at 13-15 of the fifth set in which they had to recover from 6-10 and then also from 8-12! Aboubacar Drame Neto ended the game as absolute top scorer with as many as 31 points to his name with 1 ace, 1 block and 52% in attack, but MVP of the game was a player in Nice’s jersey, Samuele Tuia, who poured in 15 points. Noteworthy also the performance of young libero Nathan Cudeville, who replaced Lilian Lemeur during the game.
Close the picture the four sets win of Poitiers on the field of newcomers Saint-Jean d’Illac – 1-3 (23:25, 14:25, 25:16, 19:25), with 12 winning blocks, a better performance in attack and 4 players in double digit: top scorer Alexandros Raptis, who scored 17 points, followed by Mathias Elser and Javier Concepcion, with 15 each (71% in attack and 5 winning blocks for the latter), and Metin Toy, who added 13.
