2 min read

Game 2 of the quarter-finals of the French Ligue A were played today, Saturday.
Montpellier, leader of regular season, with 59% in team attack, repeated the 3-0 of the first leg against Poitiers, who wasted an advantage of 20:23 and a set point on 23:24 in the first set. MVP and top scorer of the match Le Goff with 11 points, 67% in attack, 1 block and 2 aces.
Montpellier’s rivals in semi-final will be Chaumont, who overwhelmed a very disappointing Tours, French champions in 2019 and 2018 in straight sets (2020 title not awarded due to the pandemic). 30 points for the Cuban trio Mergarejo (11 with 67% in attack and 1 block), Herrera (11, 45% in attack, 1 block and 1 ace) and Alonso (8 with 100% in attack and 4 blocks), while MVP of the match was the setter Corre.
Also the series between Narbonne and Cambrai ends in two matches, with Cambrai who reach the semi-final as a newcomers and sixth in the regular season. For today’s 1-3, the different performance from the service line was decisive: 6 aces and 18 errors for the hosts Narbonne, 8 aces and only 13 errors for Cambrai, with the setter Bazin who scored 4 aces with 0 errors on 23 services. MVP of the match is Gonzalo Quiroga, author of 17 points, 54% in attack, 1 block and 2 aces), while the top scorer is the Brazilian opposite Daniel Cagliari (24 points, 57% in attack, 2 blocks and 1 ace) . The only verdict postponed to Game 3 is that between Cannes and Tourcoing, which today won away Game 2.
Bad attacking performance for the hosts: 41% and 22% efficiency (with 12 errors and 6 bulwarks ), worsened especially after the ankle injury of the starting setter Danilo Gelinski, also MVP in Game 1, in the third set, replaced by Liot, and therefore certainly not available even for today’s decisive match. MVP and top scorer of the match the young Argentine outside-hitter Palonsky with 17 points, 45% in attack and 2 aces. (Photogallery of the match here)
