Serbia needed was only one set against Poland to advance to Saturday’s semifinals of the World Championship. But now you are probably asking yourself how the Serbia managed to reach the semifinal after a 3-0 defeat. It is fair. Serbia is already in semifinal because of the point-ration. Serbia have won enough points to secure the spot. High level volleyball in Turin, with first two extended sets, and defending champions Poland swept the rival side 3-0 (28-26, 28-26, 25-22) in a dramatic and great match at the Pala Alpitour of Turin. Despite this, at this moment Serbia are still through to the semifinals on the basis of points collected today in this intense match. So, Serbia almost join USA and Brazil who had today qualified from the other 3rd Round pool, after the Americans won against Russia, which go back to home. The last sure ticket to the semifinals will be decided tomorrow, in the match between Italy and Poland at 21:15 local time, but the hosts can only qualify only beating Poland in straight sets and concede 60 points or less.

The whole match was fantastic. In the first set, Serbia had a good advantage, and a control until the very end of the set but with some good actions, Poland managed to save the set and made a comeback for taking the lead in sets! In the second set, there was again a better start from Serbia, however, Poland answered back, playing much better and was also this extended set, with the same result: 28:26. In the third set there was a conflict between the players of both team, and Michal Kubiak and Uros Kovacevic received the red cards. Afterwards, Poland decided took the win after a better display: 25-22.

Bartosz Kurek was the top scorer of the match with 15 points, followed by Michal Kubiak with 14, while Uros Kovacevic scored 14 points on the other side.
