Italy: Lube and Modena open season with a 3-0 victory, Perugia barely defeat Latina
3 min read
The reigning champions Lube Civitanova have opened the new season of Superlega with a straight sets victory over Piacenza.
Even though the game ended in three sets, it was a very difficult game for the team coached by Ferdinando de Giorgi. The first two sets were very balanced and fortunately for the home fans, defending champions won them, and later won the game.
Simon Robertlandy with 13 points and Yoandy Leal who added 11 were the best scorers of the game for the winning side, while ex Trentino’s opposite Gabriele Nelli had 22 on the other side.
Last season’s runner-up Perugia had to play a five-set match at the start of the season. Latina gave a huge resistance, however, Perugia managed to win the game somehow. Three players in Perugia scored the same number of points each: 16 points, and they are Ricci, Lanza and Atanasijevic, while Wilfredo Leon had 15 and Marko Podrascanin scored 14.
In Latina, Jean Patry scored 22 points, claiming (deservedly) the award of MVP of the match, while Maarten Van Garderen also contributed with 20.
Klemen Cebulj was the best scorer in Trentino‘s win over Ravenna, finishing the game with 16 points. However, the best scorer of the game was Ravenna’s member Thijs Ter Horst with one more point.
The Italian idol Ivan Zaytsev led Modena to the victory at the start of the season. He scored 16 points in his team’s victory over Padova.
The French national team member Stephen Boyer had a good performance against Sora, finishing the match with 21 points: his Verona won the game in straight sets.
