TJ Sokol Vienna V won the recovery match of the Round 9 DenizBank AG VL against VBK Wörther-See-Löwen Klagenfurt by 3-1 (21:25, 25:20, 25:11, 27:25).
The hosts scored had clear advantages on the block (12 vs. 4), and Ecker was the most prolific player once again with 24 points, while Simon Frühbauer made 18 for Klagenfurt.
The team from Austrian capital won seven of their ten games and finished the first phase of the regular season in second place behind VCA Amstetten NÖ. Amstetten, who today lost in five sets in Weiz, have been promoted to the top round on Saturday. VBK Wörther-See-Löwen, with 4 wins and 5 defeats, have one more game to play, against Weiz.
In the second match of the evening, VBC TLC Weiz in their ASKÖ-Halle Eggenberg defeats Amstetten at tie break (25:16, 22:25, 28:26, 23:25, 15:8). Jakob Grasserbauer (19) and Reinhard Hölzel (16) were the most prolific players among the hosts, while Daniel Morgunov (20) and Maximilian Schober (13) top-scored for Amstetten. Weiz overtook Klagenfurt and are now three points behind UVC Weberzeile Ried, at fourth place. However, they have only played nine games, and the second duel with Klagenfurt is still to be played.
The second phase of the regular season begins on Saturday. The best four teams will get the playoff ticket (quarter-finals), while the fifth will be relegated.
The top round teams, SK Zadruga Aich/Dob, UVC Holding Graz, Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel and the newcomer Amstetten are already qualified for the playoff.
