France: three points for Tours and Narbonne. Tie break wins for Cannes, Nantes and Nice

2 min read

Round 1 of French Ligue A has been completed on Saturday.
The surprise of the day was undoubtedly Narbonne’s 3-1 success over Montpellier, surely one of the favorites for the title.
Tonight the new bomber Faure did not shine (39% in attack and 24% efficiency), and the entry of Lyneel (67% in attack for outside hitter who initially started on the bench) was not enough for the comeback from 0-2. In the 4th set it was Narbonne who made a sensational comeback from 20-13. Very good performance of Bassereau, top scorer of the match with 19 points, 59% in attack and 44% efficiency.
As for the other matches, the derby between Poitiers and Tours was also played, between teams very affected by injuries, with the hosts without the setter Carisio, while recall that the guests lost the Brazilian Abouba for the whole season. Initially, it was Toledo who replaced him but, after losing the first set, Fronckowiak’s winning move was to move Derouillon opposite, with the entry in the outside-hitter position of the medical joker Baranek (arrived in the week in place of El Graoui, also injured).
All the other matches ended at the tie-break, as a reminder of the great balance of the French championship: Cannes (still without Nelli, and with its head coach Horacio diLeo off the field) won against Paris (without Fiel), resoundingly recovering from the 19-23 in the fourth set thanks to 3 consecutive aces by Fromm (photogallery of the match here).
The renewed Nantes (with 12 winning blocks, and 22 points by MVP Davy Moraes) won at home against SĆ©te, while Nice, with 26 points by Zonca (61% in attack and 55% efficiency, 2 blocks and 5 aces, including the decisive point), and 26 by Bruno Lima (52% in attack an 1 block) won on the field of newcomers Plessis Robinson recovering from 14:12 and canceling a total of 5 match points in the decisive set.
