Sada Cruzeiro trampled over Cucine Lube Civitanova in the final of the 2021 FIVB Volleyball Club World Championship in Betim, Brazil.
On a very inspired night the official hosts of the competition beat the titleholders Lube in straight sets (25:17, 25:22, 25:23), which was the replay of the decider in 2019. The team commanded by Filipe Ferraz gave no chance to the Italian giants in front of 5,000 home fans at the Ginásio Poliesportivo Divino Braga (capacity 6,000 seats) and took the fourth title in this tournament.
Thus, the winners got closer to Trentino, the Italian club that holds the record in the competition with five trophies and which clinched the bronze medal in this years’ edition after sweeping Brazil’s Funvic.
In any case, Sada Cruzeiro walked towards the world title in an impeccable way, winning all four games they played and losing only a single set!
With four representatives, the Contagem side was the one with the most players in the ideal lineup, with Cuban outside hitter Miguel Ángel López who was voted the best player of the competition.
He also top-scored his team in the final with 12 points while his compatriot Marlon Yant and Puerto Rican Gabriel García ‘Gabi’ were Lube’s most prolific players with 11 points each. Civitanova club played the whole tournament without the help of Osmany Juantorena, while Ivan Zaytsev entered as a substitute in the last two matches, but spending only a few minutes in the play. And Lube made 26 errors from the service line in three sets!
