CEV Cup: here are last teams qualified for Main Stage…

2 min read

The last four rematches of the Qualifying Round of the 2023 CEV Volleyball Cup determined the 1/16 Finals bracket.

In the return match of the Qualifying Round (1/32 finals) of the competition, despite a tie break win, nothing to do for Serbia’s Radnicki Kragujevac. Will be in fact Romania’s C.S. Arcada Galati to join main stage after a win in first leg and a 3-2 defeat today (25:23, 18:25, 25:18, 18:25, 18 :16).
Tie break home win also for Slovenia’s Calcit Kamnik (qualified) over Austria’s SK Zadruga AICH/DOB (25:20, 25:23, 18:25, 21:25, 15:11).

The Polish powerhouse PGE Skra Bełchatów beat the Dutch team of Dynamo Apeldoorn 3-0 (25:18, 25:16, 25:19) and confidently advanced to the 1/16 finals. The PlusLiga team had made a serious advantage after winning 3-0 (25:16, 25:13, and 25:19) on the road in the first leg, so its head coach Joel Banks decided to send in a few players who had played less thus far, among whom the opposite, Wiktor Musiał, top-scored with 17 points. In the next stage, they will face France’s Chaumont VB 52 in a very interesting duel between the two teams ranked among the favorites for the trophy.

Close the picture another tie break, the one of Germany’s WWK Volleys Herrsching on the field of Lindaren Volley Amriswil (22:25, 23:25, 25:23, 27:25, 6:15). The most exciting rematch was played in Switzerland. The Germans took a two-set lead today, but Amriswil managed to turn around and reach the Golden Set, in which they prevailed 15-11 to progress to the next stage where they’ll face Serbia’s Partizan Beograd. Frenchman John Wendt of Amriswil scores a match-high 29 points, including 4 blocks, while Ramon Diem made 74% reception (19 digs, 58% excellent).

These teams will join Germany’s SVG Lüneburg, Croatia’s Mursa Osijek, and Serbia’s Crvena Zvezda Beograd, who did it last week through qualifications as well.
