Austria: Ried defeat Sokol in recovery of Round 5 and fly to second place!

UVC McDonald’s Ried fly to second place in the current charts after a great victory on Monday evening: a 3-0 (26:24, 26:24, 29:27) hard-fought home win over TJ Sokol V/Post SV Wien in recovery match of Austrian Volley League Round 5.
The team from country’s capital played an excellent game, but the home side were better in decisive moments. Top scorers were Borys Zhukov (21) and Tomasz Rutecki (19) on the winning side in front of about 650 home fans, and Jan Stefko (16) and Tobias Ofner (10) for Sokol.
Ried, with 13 points, is now three points behind the leaders Hypo Tirol, the only team still undefeated after six rounds. One point behind Ried are defending champions Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel, SK Zadruga Aich/Dob and VCA Amstetten NÖ, all with 12.

Austrian Bundesliga will continue next weekend, with a big match in Zwettl between Waldviertel and Hypo Tirol, on Saturday evening at 8:15 p.m.
Moreover, titleholders will play the CEV Cup second leg against Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray Istanbul tomorrow, on Tuesday. And they lost in three sets in Turkey last week….
