Round 8 of 2022/23 Austrian Volley League has been entirely played today.
Leaders Hypo Tirol celebrated their eighth victory in as many games by beating at home VBC TLC Weiz after 73 minutes with a sovereign straight sets (25:16, 25:18, 25:22) win.
One of the major upsed of the season, TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg, is the new second, five points behind the Innsbruck side: the Styrians in fact, led by Austrian national team setter Max Thaller, added the fourth championship defeat in a row to the defending champion Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel, winning 3-1 (25:21, 25:20, 22:25, 25:22) in front of their home fans. Top scorers of the match were Dorde Knezevic and Dmytro Fedorenko with 18 each for the winners, and Marek Meciar (15) for Waldviertel.
The day continued with another upset: SK Zadruga Aich/Dob’s run of success ended after eight victories in a row across all competitions, and this is VCA Amstetten NÖ’s fault, as they beat the third-placed runner-up by 3-1 (25:16, 23:25, 25:19, 25:23) at home, to boast now 15 points in the current charts. Top scorers in the Johann-Pölz-Halle were Logan House with 23 points for the winners, and Anastasios Aspiotis (16) for Aich/Dob.
UVC Holding Graz confirmed their improving form also against UVC McDonald’s Ried, as they defeat the rivals after 126 minutes of play by 2-3 (25:27, 25:23, 25:14, 20:25, 13:15). Ried’s captain Tomasz Rutecki scored 21 points, while Anes Perezic put down 20 points for the winners. With this result Ried is fifth in the standings, Graz seventh.
TJ Sokol V/Post SV Wien was able to take the third win of the season, as they beat VBK Wörther-See-Löwen Klagenfurt 3-2 (25:16, 27:29, 23:25, 25:14, 15:11) in their Posthalle. The Carinthians are still waiting for their first success, but they were able to score their first seasonal point. Top scorers of the match were Jan Stefko with 23 points for Sokol and Steven Duzevich with 27 on the losing side.
