France: Tourcoing from 7th to 4th place! Tours back to the top, Plessis Robinson, Poitiers and Paris ok

After yesterday’s advance, in which Chaumont defeat titleholders Montpellier in straight sets in a remake of last edition of SuperCup played in October, Round 12 of 2022/23 Ligue A continued today.

In big match of the day, Tours best Nantes Rezé in straight sets (30:28, 25:19, 25:19) to regain the top of the current standings, sharing the same number of points with Chaumont (29). Actually this was a direct clash for second place, however it was a great battle only in first set, and then on the court were only one side. Brazilian Aboubacar Drame Neto was once again decisive for Tours, ending the game as top scorer with 20 points through 57% in attack, but the winners were basically better in all element, with 59% in attack against Nantes’ 45% and 9 winning blocks vs. 3. Chizoba Neves Atu was the only one player in double digit for Nantes with 14 points to his name.

Straight sets win also for Tourcoing, who beat Nice in front of their home fans (25:23, 25:22, 29:27). Although it was a hard-fought game, the hosts were better in decisive moments of the game, led by Brazilian opposite Renan Buiatti, top scorer of the game with 22 points, and Captain Moritz Reichert, who also contributed with 17. Nice, on the other hand, paid the absence of middle-blocker Rodney Ah-Kong, and a bad day in this position as his replacement, Franco Medina, and Gojko Çuk scored only 6 points each. Either way, it was a great result for Tourcoing who climbed from 7th to 4th place in the standings!

Other two game ended in straight sets today. Paris defeated Sète (25:16, 25:23, 25:16) without major problems, and with a comeback from 13:16 in second set, while Poitiers down Cambrai 3-0 (25:23, 25:21, 25:22) with 26 points from Brazilian Gabriel Candido (61% in attack, 5 winning blocks and 1 ace). Cambrai remain to the bottom of the standings now at -5 from the same Poitiers, and Toulouse, who today suffered a defeat at tie break after a battle on the field of Plessis-Robinson (19:25, 27:25, 22:25, 25:18, 18:16), but taking a very important points for the standings.

Tomorrow the game between Narbonne and newcomers Saint Nazaire, a very interesting game as both sides have 21 points in the current charts (and Tourcoing too!) will close Round 12.
