Champions League: Trento and Perugia mortgage first places in Pool D e in Pool E

The 4th round of 2023 CEV Men’s Volleyball Champions League has been completed today.
Even without León and Rychlicki, Perugia defeat Turkish champions Ziraat to reach 4-0, and Trentino 4 out of 4 as well.
The Italian runners-up Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia are unstoppable this season, and today they beat also Ziraat Bank Ankara 3-1 (25:17, 19:25, 25:17, 25:17), achieving their 21st success in a row since the beginning of the season (counting all competitions), the fourth in as many games in the competition. Andrea Anastasi’s guys did so only three days after the triumph in the FIVB Club World Championship in Brazil, and without Wilfredo León and Kamil Rychlicki today.
Cuban Jesús Herrera was Perugia’s top scorer with 20 points, including 4 blocks, while the Dutchman Wouter ter Maat scored 14 points for the Ankara side.
Just like Perugia, their fellow countrymen from Trentino Itas also had to commit to their homeworks in the Champions League right after the Club World Champs in Brazil.
Unlike Perugia’s rival, however, opponents were basically not-existent and the game ended in just 63 minutes – 3-0 (25:17, 25:15, 25:17).
Angelo Lorenzetti put Kaziyski to the rest but his team swept Czech’s ČEZ Karlovarsko and are 4-0 in Pool D.
Alessandro Michieletto, also captain today, was named MVP of the match with 15 points while Czech Donovan Džavoronok had 73% attack (11/15), and Gabriele Laurenzano made 70% reception (10 digs, 1 error, 30% excellent).
“We played a precise and focused match and that should not be taken for granted, considering the fact that we have travelled and played a lot in the last few days. I’m satisfied with the performance of my players and particularly of Alessandro Michieletto, who tonight was the Captain of the team,” said Angelo Lorenzetti, Head Coach Trentino Itas.
Jiri Novak, Head Coach ČEZ Karlovarsko: “It’s really hard to say something today. We never got into the game. The home team played well in the sideout phase not allowing us to have break points.”
