Austria: first win for Klagenfurt! Hartberg, leaders Hypo Tirol, Aich/Dob and Amstetten ok

2 min read

All matches of Round 16 of 2022/23 Austrian Bundesliga were played today.

Leaders HYPO TIROL beats Union Waldviertel, waiting for another duel between these same rivals on Monday for the Austrian Cup Final! Today the Innsbruck side defeated the titleholders in just 3 sets (27:25, 25:20, 25:20) and can no longer lose the first place.
The hosts had a difficult start and were always behind (also with 7 a points deficit!) until the decisive 20:20. However, Waldviertel missed two set points and the rivals can take first set 27-25. Then the game is over: in the second set, head coach Stefan Chrtiansky’s team took the lead, Waldviertel didn’t give up, and level the score, 14:14. However, the hosts forced the game with a 6:0 run and, after 92 minutes of play, managed to take their 15th win in 16 games played so far. Pedro Frances got his first brief appearance after a long injury break on the winning side.

The second-placed in the standings, TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg, defeated UVC McDonald’s Ried away at tie-break. The winners almost wasted a 2-0 set lead, and also had to save a match point before winning the game after 132 minutes of play – 3-2 (25:22, 25:22, 21:25, 24:26, 16:14).
Hartberg is now one point ahead of VCA Amstetten NÖ, who also celebrated a hard-fought away win, beating TJ Sokol V/Post SV Wien 3-1 (25:13, 29:27, 22:25, 35:33). The winners closed the game only at the eighth match point!

Fourth-placed SK Zadruga Aich/Dob was also able to reduce the gap to Hartberg.
After a 3-0 (25:19, 25:23, 25:15) clear win on the field of VBC TLC Weiz, the runner-up are now two points from second place.
