Austria: Hypo Tirol destroy Waldviertel and become Austrian Volley Cup winner for the first time since 2014!2 min read
2022/23 Austrian Volley Cup winner has a new name: Hypo Tirol Volleyballteam, for the sixth time in club’s history and for the first time since 2014!
On Monday evening in a very hot USI hall in Innsbruck, local fans won the title with a very convincing 3-0 (25:18, 25:17, 25:18) victory in the final with last season’s double winner Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel.
Interestingly, It was only on Saturday that the two sides faced each other in the same place in, a match valid for Round 16 of Bundesliga, in which the players around head coach Stefan Chrtianski secured first place in the regular season with a clear win.
And today too, respected predictions.
Defending champions Waldviertel were able to fight until 17:17, but in the decisive phase the home side played absolutely better in all elements, including serving and blocking.
The first set was a sovereign affair, and the guests gave their best in the second set. However, Hypo Tirol kept the game on a very high level, with an enormous power in attack, and the 2-0 set lead was a logical consequence.
The game continued in this tone, Hypo Tirol’s performance was too dominant for the rivals, and the third set also ended up as a rather one-sided affair.
The match stats, in fact, are almost all in favor of the new winners: attack points 47 to 27 (59% to 31%), aces 3 to 3 (errors 8 to 5), and block points 12 to 8.
Top scorers of the match were Luan Weber (18), final MVP Niklas Kronthaler (15) and Arthur Nath (12) on the winning side, while no player on Waldviertel’s jersey ended the game in doble digit, with Koendert Daan Streutker top scorer with 9 points and Peter Schnabel and Joel Regehr with 5 each.
Also the Women’s final ended in straight sets, with Oberbank STEELVOLLEYS Linz-Steg who defeated TI-ROWA-Moser-volley (25:21, 27:25, 25:15).
