Challenge Cup: after a pre-match clash between fans, police postpone 2nd leg of semifinal between Panathinaikos and Olympiacos

1 min read

The second leg of the 2023 CEV Volleyball Challenge Cup semifinal between Panathinaikos Athens and Olympiacos has been postponed, and will be recovered on Thursday February 16, at 2:30 PM local time.
It was decided by the meeting that took place inside the Agios Thomas Indoor Hall in Athens.

The reason?
One hour before the match that was to be played today there were tensions (lot of tensions…) at one of the entrances to the hall.
And then they even poured over to the stands after which police used tear gas inside the hall.
But this caused even more intense incidents, and It took two hours to settle down.
However, due to the fact that the doors to the hall were left open for about two hours, there was a noticeable drop in temperature in it and there were no conditions for the encounter to be held.

Of course, the match tomorrow will be played behind closed doors, after the joint decision of the supervisor and the police if it was played.

Recall that Panathinaikos won the first leg 3-1.
