Italy: Civitanova forced the series with Verona to Game 5! 8 aces for Nikolov.

With all quarterfinals series to 2-1, we have today the first verdict, and the first series to Game 5!

In another exciting game between WithU Verona, who managed to take the lead 2-0, and Cucine Lube Civitanova, tonight to smile are again italian titleholders, who won the game by 1-3 (25:20, 23:25, 26:28, 24:26) in a sold out AGSM Forum after losing first sets and closing the others with the minimum gap, including a sensational comeback from 24-20 in third set.

The match was an exciting battle from the start, with Verona taking an early lead and Civitanova struggling to catch up. However, the guests’ determination paid off, and although closing the gap, the hosts closed the first set with two point in a row by Keita.
The second set was basically the same, but Verona attempted to pull ahead. However, Lube didn’t lose their determination and kept the score tied with two aces by a great Nikolov. Blengini’s guys then got back on track, overpassed Verona, and leveled the score of the match on 1-1.
Verona reacted in the next set and dominated especially in attack, leaving small chance for their opponents to reply. However, Civitanova cancelled three set points and overturned the result by great serves performance of Marlon Yant. The match remained fiercely contested even when they returned to the court in fourth set but, in the end, the visiting side sealed the contest with a block, claiming a hard-fought and well-deserved victory.

To make the difference are also an impressive performance from the service line, with 15 aces, 8 from Nikolov (top scorer among the winners with 22 points and MVP award, while Keita put down 25 for Verona).
About the numbers, Verona closed with 60 attacks to 53 of the rivals, 8 blocks to 6, but with “only” 7 aces. 23 errors for Lube, 25 for Verona.

Game 5 will be played on Saturday, April 8 at Civitanova’s Eurosuole Forum.
