Italy: Monza down Perugia at tie break. 5th Place and Challenge Cup!

After the assignment of third place and the consequent ticket for 2023/24 Champions League, italian Superlega gives us tonight another verdict.

After 132 minutes of play, Vero Volley Monza win at tie break on the field of regular season absolute leaders Sir Safety Susa Perugia (25:21, 15:25, 25:19, 24:26, 10:15) closing the season at 5th Place and taking the ticket for next edition of Challenge Cup!
It was a game with lot of ups and downs at Perugia’s PalaBarton: after a first set easily won by the hosts, with a clear 25-21, Monza reply with a one-sided second set, 15-25, and then Perugia take the lead again, by winning the third 25-19.
The fourth set is the most balanced one, and rewarded Monza, who close it overtime 24-26, and the match is over: after a clear 4-8, the final 10-15, and the players around coach Eccheli can celebrate their return in Europe.
Decisive the performance from the service line: Monza in fact put down as many as 14 aces, that send into crisis the rivals’ reception.
Among the hosts, out of all European cups, the best is Rychlicki with 22 points to his name through 61% in attack, but double digit also for Semeniuk (13 with 3 winning blocks)c and Leon (12 with 2 aces) while, for Monza, great performances for Maar, who ended the game with 21 points, Grozer (17, but he suffered an ankle injury at 10-13 of tie break), Davyskiba (16) and Galassi, with 15 points.
