Eurovolley2023: France to semifinals! Romania defeated in straight sets

After the game between Slovenia and Ukraine, Quarterfinals of 2023 European Championship continued at Palace of Culture and Sports in Varna with a straight sets win (25:22, 25:14, 27:25) of France against Romania.
Under the command of Italian expert Andrea Giani, olympic champions France are back to the top 4 in Europe and, in Rome, they’ll face the winners between Italy and The Netherlands in semifinals scheduled on Thursday.
After the resounding elimination in 2021, in which they suffered a defeat against Czech Republic in Round of 16, they claimed their ticket to the final four only after a hard-fought game.
F most first set, in fact, they suffered the play of the rivals (who already beat them in Pool D, in Israel), finding the decisive break only in the final, from 18-20 to 22-20.
After dominating second set, Romania reacted with a 0-5 in third one, in which they even had to cancel three set points, 21-24, and another before close set and game 27-25.
With stars Earvin Ngapeth and Trevor Clevenot not at their best, France played a game with lot of uos and down. Not a good day for outside hitters Timothée Carle, decisive in last games (today only 7 points through 37% in attack). A little bit better Yacine Louati who, however, suffered in second line.
Good performance from start to finish also for opposite Jean Patry, who ended the game with 14 points and 59% in attack.
For Romania, on the other hand, this was a great result, as they celebrated their presence to quarterfinals for the first time since 1985. Bartha and Aciobanitei, were decisive today, but their team suffered the bad day of opposite Alexandru Rata, who scored just 5 points through 20% in attack.
