Supercup to HYPO Tirol after a 3-0 over Waldviertel

Austrian Champions and national cup winner HYPO TIROL volleyball team secured another title on Monday evening in their Olympiahalle Innsbruck.
Head coach Stefan Chrtiansky’s team secured the Austrian Volley Supercup Men for the first time, beating defending champions Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel 3-0 (25:23, 25:15, 25:22).
Actually both Supercup trophies went to Innsbruck, as the women of TI-Schuh-Staudinger-volley had defeated Oberbank STEELVOLLEYS Linz-Steg after a thrilling 3-2 (16:25, 26:24, 25:22, 23:25, 16:14) battle taking their first title in club’s history. Both Austrian Volley League Women and Powerfusion Volley League Men will start next Saturday.

About the game itself, Waldviertel had a better start, taking a 6-1 lead, but the hosts quickly came back, leveling the score 12-12.
The game continued in a very balanced way, with a happier ending for HYPO TIROL after an error from the service line by Koendert Daan Streutker that was worth the decisive 25-23.
The momentum continued, and the second set started with a clear 7-0 in favor of the hosts, with a great service’s turn by brazilian bomber Luan Weber, 11-3. Eventually Finn Örley close at third set point, 25-15. In the third and decisive set, Waldviertel control the game until a great 17-13 lead but suddenly there was a lack of stability and lot of errors. HYPO TIROL was able to equalize (17:17) and, in the hot phase, they scored three points in a row for the decisive 23:21. Shortly afterwards, after a block by Nicolai Grabmüller, it was 25-22 and 3-0 for HYPO TIROL.

Top scorers of the game were Niklas Kronthaler (18), Luan Weber (12) and Nicolai Grabmüller (9) on the winning side, and Krzysztof Gulak (14), Koendert Daan Streutker (11) and Paul Nusterer (10) on the other side of the net.

“I’m satisfied, but we still have work to do and we’re not yet optimally coordinated. It was of course important to start the season positively. I hope we can achieve the triple,” said HYPO TIROL VT head coach Stefan Chrtiansky.
